There is a special kind of magic that happens when you get to photograph an old friend.
I’ve known Megan since high school, so being asked to capture her wedding to Phil wasn’t just a job—it was an honor. When you already have that foundation of friendship, the “photographer/client” barrier disappears instantly. There’s no warming up, no awkward poses—just genuine laughter and the comfort of having a buddy behind the lens.

The Setting: Fortitude Farms & Events
Megan and Phil chose the incredible Fortitude Farms & Events in Owosso, Michigan for their celebration, and it was the perfect backdrop for their story.
This venue is a gem in Central Michigan. It’s not just a venue; it’s a destination dedicated to the rural lifestyle, and you can feel that grounded energy the moment you arrive. The “Fields of Fortitude”—their stunning U-cut flower fields—provided built-in beauty that you simply can’t replicate. We were surrounded by rows of vibrant blooms that added a natural, romantic texture to every single image.
Beyond the scenery, I have to give a massive shoutout to the staff at Fortitude Farms. They were some of the kindest, most helpful people I’ve worked with, ensuring the day flowed effortlessly so Megan and Phil could just focus on each other.

Connection Over Perfection
The energy of the day was pure joy. Megan had her best friend, Lea, by her side the entire day, and capturing that bond was a highlight for me. From the quiet getting-ready moments to the party on the dance floor, the day felt grounded in real connection.
Because we were friends, the timeline didn’t feel like a checklist; it felt like hanging out. That relaxed energy shows up in the photos—flawless, happy, and completely authentic.
Megan shared some kind words about the experience that truly mean the world to me:

“Rick was such a great addition to our wedding crew! From day-one, he was so helpful and genuinely excited to be a part of my big day… His fun personality, professionalism, and photography skill set are a wedding must-have! These pictures turned out flawless and I couldn’t be happier we chose him as our photographer!” — Megan, The Bride

The Takeaway
Your wedding photographer shouldn’t just be a vendor; they should feel like a friend. Whether we went to high school together or we just met on your consultation call, my goal at Studio Schickel is to bring that same level of comfort, excitement, and “helpful homie” energy to your day.
When you feel comfortable, you look radiant. It’s that simple.
